Description:

An Incredible Masterpiece! Santo Domingo artist Priscilla Nieto has created this striking 'Harvest Necklace' from serpentine and turquoise. This traditional necklace has a dramatic piece of turquoise as a centerpiece, signifying the 'mother earth'. The matrix of the stone represents the roots of growing corn plants. The strands of serpentine 'corn beads' are the crops as they grow throughout the season. When the men harvest the corn, it is depicted with the large serpentine rectangles. Finally, the top of the necklace portrays the ears of corn that have been harvested by the men and returned to the women for food preparation. A very important necklace with an abundance of tradition and meaning. Priscilla has hand made each bead of this outstanding necklace. Even the olive snail shell heishi between the corn beads is hand formed. She has finished the necklace with the traditional squaw wrap which makes for comfortable wearing. Truly an amazing piece for the collector, or anyone who appreciates fine artistry, tradition and talent. Beautiful! This necklace is 34" in length and finished with a 2" by 1 3/4" turquoise pendant. The large serpentine stones are 1 1/2" by 2 1/4". See the Taos Trading Storefront for a great selection of jewelry designs and styles.
